David Cobley grew up in the Midlands and attended Liverpool School of Art for just one term before dropping out and heading East to Japan, where he lived and worked for ten years. He eventually came back to England and worked as a freelance illustrator for several years in Bath, whilst he developed his drawing and painting in his spare time. Today, David is an incredibly well-established artist, having made his name as a portrait painter David has completed commissions of The Princess Royal, Ken Dodd, and Professor Stephen Hawking to name but a few. David has been a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and was elected a member of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters in 1997. He has exhibited at Messums, Beaux Arts in Bath, and Mall Galleries.
